St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Boerne Fall Festival

September 26th, 2011

 Saturday, October 1st, 2011

The St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Boerne Fall Festival has always been one of the most fun, exciting and successful events of the year for our growing community, and this year will be no different, as final preparations are underway for Bringing the Celebration Home! This year’s event promises to be all that and more with new twists that will make this October 1st event one to be remembered by the parish, residents of Boerne, and those in the surrounding area.

Kicking off this year’s event will be the second annual 5K Run/Walk. The participants will tour historic Boerne, beginning and finishing at the Family Life Center on the parish grounds. Registration fee for 5K Run/Walk is $25, and race-day registration will begin at 7:00am. Race start time is 8:00am.

This daylong event will close with nationally recognized Contemporary Christian Recording Artist, Shawn McDonald, performing live and in-concert in the St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church Sanctuary beginning at 7:30pm. It will be acoustic and inspirational, so everyone will enjoy!! There will also be a meet and greet with Shawn McDonald supported by K-LOVE on campus to support the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center, tentatively around 4:45 pm in front of the church. K-LOVE will broadcast the info!

The Fall Festival 2011 will also feature children’s entertainment section with rides and games, live entertainment throughout the day, a rummage sale, BBQ Brisket lunch available, various food booths and Bingo.

Participants, family members and friends may enjoy refreshments and take a peak at the soon to be completed “Upper Room”, a multi-use community venue/banquet hall sitting atop our main campus that features the most beautiful sunset views in the Texas Hill Country. The venue will be available for the public to reserve and will serve as an unmatched option for special events such as wedding receptions, reunions, company parties, and anniversaries…just to name a few. This banquet hall holds up to 400 people, with complete kitchen/catering facilities and boasts a beautiful veranda at its entrance.

Boerne Bucks

September 21st, 2011

Most of us know about Groupon and only some of us know of BoerneBucks.  Right here in Boerne, TX we have our own Groupon type deals on http://boernebucks.com.  Check this site out regularly and recieve great deals on local places around town.  The deal this week is $51 for microdermabrasion with Dr. McRae Medical Laser Spa!  That is a FABULOUS deal and worth every penny!  You can even buy more than 1 to have as gifts(Christmas is right around the corner—and my birthday is in January-KIDDING).  Really, this is a wonderful deal to pamper yourself and treat your skin to some rejuvinication.

Parent’s Night Out

September 19th, 2011

Make a date night for September 23 and take your kids over to Boerne Gymnastics to play while you dine out with your honey!  If you are looking for an affordable and fun way to entertain your kids and can’t find a babysitter, why not try taking them to a fun night of open gym, climbing, games, movie, pizza and drinks.

From 6:00-10:30 pm you can drop your kids off while the staff at Boerne Gymnastics entertain and keep your kids safe.  Everyone ages 4 and up are welcome.  The cost is $25/member and $30/nonmembers.  That’s cheaper than hiring a babysitter to come over for 4 hours!!  Limited space and you must sign up ahead of time.  Contact 830-816-9496 to reserve your spot.  Almost sounds like enough fun for me to sign up and go play :)

PEACE!

September 18th, 2011

Oh my goodness, I read the best quote tonight from Beth Moore that I had to share with all of you Savvy Mommas!!!  “The key to peace is authority.  When we allow the Prince of Peace to govern our lives, peace either immediately or ultimately results.  Peace accompanies authority.”  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this take on experiencing God’s peace!  It is so stinkin’ true!!!!

So many times in our lives we dwell on past experiences that were hard to go through.  Or we may not ever let go of a trial completely, but learning to surrender every part of your life and every concern of your heart to the all-powerful, all-sufficient, all-knowing Creator of heaven and earth will truly set us FREE!!!  Praying that each of us work at experiencing God’s peace and never letting go of that feeling!

Col. 3:15: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

Reading With Your Kiddos!

September 16th, 2011

Corduroy [Book]Taking time out of your day to read with your kids will not only bless their lives, but yours too!  We worked really hard this summer to read new books with the kids and talk about what we read when we finished the book.  It was amazing to hear their perspectives. Sometimes I would rush through bath, book, and prayer time that I never sat and allowed my kids to digest and discuss what we read.  My eyes were opened and my heart was filled with warmth as I sat and listened to what the kids learned from the books.  And now we refer to different stories throughout our day and recall different lessons they may have learned.

I encourage you to take the time to read to your children.  It’s something they will enjoy doing with you and hopefully encourage them to want to read more on their own.  Some of our favorite books:

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, Harry the Dirty Dog, Ella the Elegant Elephant, Click Clack Moo, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Engine That Could, Curious George, Little Black Sambo and Corduroy.

Ranch at the Rim raises money for cancer research

September 15th, 2011

It’s not too late to make plans for a night out on the town TONIGHT!!!  Ranch at the Rim western store located at the Rim off of I-10 is hosting their annual fashion show and fundraiser for cancer research.  This event is a MUST SEE, MUST ATTEND event!  So fun to get all dressed in your cute clothes and a pair of boots, mingle with others while sipping on a glass of wine and enjoying some appetizers.  The best is watching the models strutting the cat walk modeling all the latest fashions from Ranch at the Rim.  The coolest part about this event…most of the models are cancer survivors or cancer patients!!!  You talk about being “moved” and feeling God’s presence in a room with walking miracles!  Come see it to believe it and come support finding a cure for cancer!

The event starts at 6:30 TONIGHT September 15 and tickets can be purchased through Lisa (210) 595-0219.  See ya out there!!!

Dog and Pony Grill in Boerne

September 15th, 2011

Yummy!!!  Have you checked out the latest restaurant in Boerne that is kid friendly?  I mean, really kid friendly!!  Playgrounds, basketball area and little game machines are all there for your little ones to enjoy while you can grab a healthy meal (or a not so healthy meal).  They have a delicious salad bar with all the fixin’s you could want and their grilled chicken sandwich is one I would definitely order again.  This is a great place to meet your friends before or after a ball game or on a night that your kitchen might be closed.  Located on the south end of Main Street in Boerne.  Check it out!  Worth going…especially on a night when all kids are hungry and needing to play.

Are You Ready For This?!?!?

September 15th, 2011

To all my Savvy Mommas out there….all I can do is apoligize for keeping you hanging for so long!  SORRY! SORRY! SORRY!

To say that I have been busy would be an understatement.  Not like that is any great excuse, but I guess between having a new baby, co-chairing the largest fundraiser in Kendall County that took an entire year to plan and then having 3 kiddos home with me for the summer the Savvy Mommas blog has been put on the back burner.  Please forgive me!

Now that school is in full motion and I am figuring out the new life we live with 2 of the kids being in school full time, I have every good intention to get on this blog more frequently to share neat stories, ideas and places to check out around town.  And since I have been so distant, if you want to email me any suggestions for things to write up please do so!  I need content on this page to keep all my Savvy Momma readers engaged.  Maybe you know of a neat new place to grab lunch, a new craft to do with your kiddos or even a new tip on parenting.  We all could use some advice and encouragement…so bring it!  That’s what this blog is for :)

So….here it goes!!!  Hoping to bring you some useful information as the year gets going!
PRAY FOR RAIN!!!!!
