Big Lou’s Pizza

April 5th, 2010

If you are looking for a fun experience and a great place to host a party, you might want to check out Big Lou’s Pizza restaurant for a memorable way to eat a pizza.  This restaurant has been featured on Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel because of it’s unique way of serving pizza.  You can order a 42 inch pizza that will feed an army!  It literally takes up the entire table.  You have to hold your drink in your lap in order for the pizza to fit.  It is recommended not to add too many toppings or the dough will get too soggy.  This could be a funny and adventurous night out with your friends, date night with other couples or for a bday party for bigger kids.  The pizza is tasty too!  Check it out.  You can find them at:

Easter Story with Easter Cookies

April 1st, 2010

The Easter Story Cookies

To be made the evening before Easter.

You need:

1 cup whole pecans
1 tsp. vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 cup sugar
zipper baggie
wooden spoon
tape
A Bible

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. This is important! Don’t wait until you’re
half done with the recipe!

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested,
He was beaten by the Roman soldiers.
Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar.
Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl.
Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross,
He was given vinegar to drink.
Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life.
Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life.
Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child’s hand. Let them taste it and
brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears
shed by Jesus’ followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.
Read Luke 23:27.

So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing.
Add 1 cup sugar.
Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died
because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him.
Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks
are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God’s eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.
Read Isa. 1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie
sheet.  Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus’ body was laid.
Read Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF.
Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that
Jesus’ tomb was sealed.
Read Matt. 27:65-66.

NOW GO TO BED!
Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight.  Jesus’ followers were in despair when the tomb was
sealed.
Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first
Easter, Jesus’ followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.
Read Matt. 28:1-9

One Thing

March 28th, 2010

“One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.”

What is YOUR “one thing?” Honestly? The one thing you want and desire more than anything? The one thing you would do just about anything to obtain?

I want to share a song with you that is one of my very favorite prayers to pray, as I often like to pray with scripture through song. It is a song called “Sweet Illumination” by Shane Barnard and Shane Everett, my all time favorite artists.

One thing, one thing
This is what I desire, this is what I desire
Sweet Illumination, sweet illumination
That I may gaze upon His face
O, to know this man.

Sweet illumination, sweet illumination
To glory in the presence of the King
Behold the sweet essence of this one thing
That I may know the Spring within me
As it rises the Spring, so sweet

Is your greatest desire Jesus? To know Him and become more like Him? Do you desire sweet illumination so that the world can see His Spring in you? “Behold the sweet essence of this one thing…..” He lives in you and through you so that others may know Him. Can they see Him? Oh, to know Him and make Him known!

“O Lord, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; He swears to his own hurt and does not change; He does not put out his money at interest, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.” Psalm 15

Jesus, may YOU be our greatest desire. Our “One Thing”. That we may gaze at Your beauty all the days of our lives. That our lives would be sweetly illuminated by You and Your unfailing love. We pray that our sweet illumination would ultimately bring glory to You. Oh, that we may know you. Amen.

What is Enchanted Springs?  A western movie set and animal park with real live cowboys and cowgirls!  There are old western wagons, the town Saloon and plenty of area for you to picnic and play like you are on an old wetern movie with your friends and kids.  When you go you will experience tractor wagon rides through the animal park, pony rides and shows by Pistol Packin’ Paula.  This is an experience you won’t want to miss and will make for a great day with wonderful pictures of you and your crew!

Enchanted Springs is open for Spring Break March 17-21 from 10-5 and always open only on the weekends until June.  June-August they are open from 10-5.  Adults are $14 for admission, children 3-12 are $7 and kids under 3 are free.  Private parties, weddings and field trips are all available.  Check out their web page at http://enchantedspringsranch.com to get directions and learn more about the ranch.

Spring Has Sprung!

March 14th, 2010

YEA YEA YEA!  It seems like the weather is starting to consistently be warmer and more beautiful lately.  All I can say is THANK YOU JESUS.  I was to the point that the kids were ridin their bikes inside the house because we weren’t getting out much. NOT anymore :)

So, now that the weather is warmer I want to hear from you!  Where are some of your favorite parks around town?  What fun games and activities are you doing outside with your kids?  It is picnic season, throwing rocks in rivers and ponds season, feeding the animals season and staying outside all day long.  I might even forgo naps occasionally if the weather stays this good.  Bring on the sunshine!

Please comment back on your favorite parks and activities so I can send it out for all the Savvy Mommas to take advantage of this amazing weather.

No Excuses!

March 11th, 2010

The prophet Jeremiah of the Old Testament is often referred to as “the prophet of doom and the prophet of restoration.” God called Jeremiah and commissioned him at a young age. Jeremiah was often characterized by his anguish, so often that he is sometimes referred to by scholars as the “weeping prophet.” However, because of his clear and unquestionable divine calling and the Lord’s constant reaffirmation of his commissioning, Jeremiah was fearless and served the Lord wholeheartedly!

Pay close attention to a portion of God’s call and commission to Jeremiah:

“Do not say, ‘I am a youth; Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, and all that I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,’ declares the Lord. Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, ‘Behold I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms; To pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.’” Jeremiah 1:7-10

If the Lord has called you to be one of His children, He has called and commissioned you to be a disciple of Jesus. He has called you to Himself to do the many works He has prepared for you before you were even born (see Ephesians 2:10). Jeremiah was a great example for us in our high calling as disciples of Christ. We are never to use the excuse “I am too young” or “I just don’t know enough” or “I just don’t have the experience” to keep us from the work of the Lord. Neither youth nor inexperience disqualifies us to do His great work or speak His amazing truths to others. The Lord has commissioned YOU and therefore will sustain you and equip you with everything you need to the job He has called you to do. Your confidence and self esteem MUST abide in the Lord your God alone! You have not been called to live in fear of your high commissioning because God, who has brought you right to the place you are now, will deliver you from the hand of evil and of this world. He does not promise, however, that you will not face persecution or difficult times (He actually tells us the opposite in John 16:33 and elsewhere in the New Testament), but that He will be with you and deliver you in those challenging times. Then in Jeremiah 1:9, the Lord tells Jeremiah He will even give him the words to speak! Wow! And He has likewise given us the Holy Spirit so that we may know what to speak in times of uncertainty!

So now I ask, “Are you doing the job that God has put you on this earth to do? Are you living the life He has called and commissioned you for? Or are you hiding behind a veil of fear and uncertainty?

My prayer for you this week comes from Ephesians 1:17-19

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe…”

Fishing For Manners

February 26th, 2010

Thanks Deanna for such a creative way to make a game with the kiddos.  Wanted to make sure and share with everyone!

Write down 6 good manners and 6 bad manners on a sheet of paper.  Cut them out so that you now have 12 pieces of paper (or 12 manners to place inside the cups).

Take 2 styrofoam cups and write “good” one one cup and “bad” on the other.

Take construction paper, draw pictures of fish and cut them out.  Write the “good” and “bad” manners on the fish.  Take a paperclip and put them through the mouth of the fish.  Make a fishing rod with a pencil, string, and kitchen magnet.

Place all the manner fish in a large bowl.  Let your child fish for a manner.  When they catch a fish read the manner outloud and have them decide if it is a “good” manner or a “bad” manner.  Have him put the fish in the correct cup.

You could also do this with letters on a cup and the fish could have words that start with the letters.  This would make for a great activity on a rainy day!  Thanks again Deanna.  Go FISH!
