Monday, September 26th, 2011

 Saturday, October 1st, 2011

The St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Boerne Fall Festival has always been one of the most fun, exciting and successful events of the year for our growing community, and this year will be no different, as final preparations are underway for Bringing the Celebration Home! This year’s event promises to be all that and more with new twists that will make this October 1st event one to be remembered by the parish, residents of Boerne, and those in the surrounding area.

Kicking off this year’s event will be the second annual 5K Run/Walk. The participants will tour historic Boerne, beginning and finishing at the Family Life Center on the parish grounds. Registration fee for 5K Run/Walk is $25, and race-day registration will begin at 7:00am. Race start time is 8:00am.

This daylong event will close with nationally recognized Contemporary Christian Recording Artist, Shawn McDonald, performing live and in-concert in the St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church Sanctuary beginning at 7:30pm. It will be acoustic and inspirational, so everyone will enjoy!! There will also be a meet and greet with Shawn McDonald supported by K-LOVE on campus to support the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center, tentatively around 4:45 pm in front of the church. K-LOVE will broadcast the info!

The Fall Festival 2011 will also feature children’s entertainment section with rides and games, live entertainment throughout the day, a rummage sale, BBQ Brisket lunch available, various food booths and Bingo.

Participants, family members and friends may enjoy refreshments and take a peak at the soon to be completed “Upper Room”, a multi-use community venue/banquet hall sitting atop our main campus that features the most beautiful sunset views in the Texas Hill Country. The venue will be available for the public to reserve and will serve as an unmatched option for special events such as wedding receptions, reunions, company parties, and anniversaries…just to name a few. This banquet hall holds up to 400 people, with complete kitchen/catering facilities and boasts a beautiful veranda at its entrance.

Parent’s Night Out

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Make a date night for September 23 and take your kids over to Boerne Gymnastics to play while you dine out with your honey!  If you are looking for an affordable and fun way to entertain your kids and can’t find a babysitter, why not try taking them to a fun night of open gym, climbing, games, movie, pizza and drinks.

From 6:00-10:30 pm you can drop your kids off while the staff at Boerne Gymnastics entertain and keep your kids safe.  Everyone ages 4 and up are welcome.  The cost is $25/member and $30/nonmembers.  That’s cheaper than hiring a babysitter to come over for 4 hours!!  Limited space and you must sign up ahead of time.  Contact 830-816-9496 to reserve your spot.  Almost sounds like enough fun for me to sign up and go play :)

2 Great websites for your kiddos to check out!

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Thanks to my friend Lianne!  Check out these 2 websites she is using with her daughters!  They sound amazing!
There is one web site for math and the other is for reading.  The reading site is free and is www.bookadventure.com.  If you sign up, your child can take online quizzes for the books they read.

The second is for math and my friend’s children use it at their private school.  It is a subscription site, $10 a month or a yearly charge of $79.  Check them out at  www.ixl.com.  It covers everything kids need to know and is grouped by grade level.

Field Trip at No Cost!

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

I have been so blessed to find a wonderful preschool for my kiddos that we all love.  I could go on and on about how great the teachers are, the activities and the lessons the kids are learning.  The one thing I love about the school is that they take the kids on field trips throughout the year.

My son just went on a field trip to our local grocery store.  It was both educational and fun.  He has mentioned it a few times now since he went last week.  He has been pointing out to me which foods are healthy and which ones are not!  Gotta love your 5 year old telling it like it is.

It made me realize I need to be better about educating my kids when we are out in public.  So many times I am so concerned about getting my errands run or making sure they are behaving that I don’t live in the moment and allow my kids imagination and brains run wild.  We frequent the grocery on a weekly basis.  How easy would it be to teach them a new food each week and where it comes from?  Or show them how the butchers work so hard to have the meats freshly prepared for us and talk to them about where the meats come from.  Teach them the difference between a healthy snack vs. a non-healthy snack.  Show them the importance of how much things cost and add up so quickly.

The grocery store is a great activity you could take your kids to do without making it your routine trip to the grocery.  Take them on a scavenger hunt where they have to find certain healthy food choices, allow them to find foods that start with each letter of the alphabet and write them down, take them to change their coins from their piggy bank  into cash and then let them pick out a snack, show them the floral area and teach them different types of flowers God has made.  There are endless teaching moments in the grocery that we all frequent too often!  Take advantage of spending special time with your kids and enjoy your local food market.

The Cove Restaurant

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

I am trying my best to get out more and see the city, especially before the arrival of our new baby.  We are soon going to become a family of 5 and have been discussing how much of the little things will be changing for our family.  So exciting and a bit nervous, but very THANKFUL for God’s continued blessings in my life.

We came across a dive this weekend that exceeded our expectations!  The Cove Restaurant, located at 606 W. Cypress Street in San Antonio has the slogan “Eat Well, Live Well.”  They serve SOL foods!  Sustainable, organic and local!!  This restaurant is also a beer garden, live music venue, laundromat and car wash!!!

The Cove was featured on the Food Network channel and Texas Monthly magazine.  Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and a kids playground, basketball hoop and ping pong table!  Another bonus…every Tuesday from 5pm-11pm kids eat free off the kids menu with the purchase of adult entree.  You can make this a whole family event and even bring your dog!

Take a Saturday and get out of your rut!  Try somewhere new and get inspired by eating healthy!  You won’t be disappointed with this place!  To learn more about The Cove check out their web page at http://thecove.us.

New Year’s Resolutions for Savvy Mommas

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

I am not the type of person that comes up with a New Years Resolution and sticks to it, but every year I wonder what I can do to be better, to help others, to make a difference.  I figure with New Years being this weekend I could jot down some easy ideas for any Savvy Momma to work on with their families.  Our husbands and kids deserve the best of us!  And sometimes we are so tired of giving all we have or we get stuck in rut.  My resolution is to wake up with a purpose, have a positive attitude and live my life with Jesus as my everything.  I figure we can all strive for excellence.  Here are just a few ways to make small changes in your daily life, yet they will be BIG changes for those that live under your household too!

Wake up happy!  Chose to be happy!  My attitude reflects on how I show my kids love each and every day.  Make an effort to start the day out right.  Spend time in the mornings talking to God, getting up on the right side of the bed.  When you are happy, your family will be too.  You know the old saying….”when momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy!”

Exercise, breathe fresh air, enjoy our beautiful city and weather, teach your children how important it is it live an active lifestyle.  You will never regret spending 30 minutes of your day making your heart healthy, your body feel good and your energy level superb.  Be an influence that refects healthy living to your kids.

Spend time reading the Bible!  There is no greater book out there that you can learn from, share stories, understand history and see God reveal His love for you!  What better stories are there to tell your kids besides ones that really happened and that allow us to understand how mighty and sovereign our God is!

I will work on quality time with my kids and my husband!  We are all so plugged into the internet, cell phones, and wordly issues that even when we are “stay at home” mom’s we are home, but too busy being plugged into this junk.  Imagine leaving your phone behind while you go to the park and actually enjoy playing with your kids, rather than sitting on the bench checking your Facebook account.  I am guilty of doing this!  Small changes of letting go of the “noise” to enjoy real noise of your family is well worth it!

Make a difference in the community.  Get invovled in some type of local non-profit, help a family, volunteer your talents for others and show your kids the importance of giving back.  This is also a great way to use some hidden talents you haven’t used since you graduated from college, high school or sorority life.  God gave us all different talents.  We should not let them go to waste!  We are here working for Him, on His kingdom.  Strive to shine your light and allow others to see Jesus living inside our hearts for others.  Not just for ourselves and our busy lives and routines of the hustle and bustle.

I will stop here, although I could think of many more.  But, these are areas I am going to work on and I thought I would share with you.  Hoping to inspire you, allow your minds to start thinking about living 2011 to the best of your ability, create new and fond memories for your family and make you a proud Savvy Momma that lives with NO REGRETS!  Be safe this weekend!
