Ranch at the Rim raises money for cancer research

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

It’s not too late to make plans for a night out on the town TONIGHT!!!  Ranch at the Rim western store located at the Rim off of I-10 is hosting their annual fashion show and fundraiser for cancer research.  This event is a MUST SEE, MUST ATTEND event!  So fun to get all dressed in your cute clothes and a pair of boots, mingle with others while sipping on a glass of wine and enjoying some appetizers.  The best is watching the models strutting the cat walk modeling all the latest fashions from Ranch at the Rim.  The coolest part about this event…most of the models are cancer survivors or cancer patients!!!  You talk about being “moved” and feeling God’s presence in a room with walking miracles!  Come see it to believe it and come support finding a cure for cancer!

The event starts at 6:30 TONIGHT September 15 and tickets can be purchased through Lisa (210) 595-0219.  See ya out there!!!

Dog and Pony Grill in Boerne

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Yummy!!!  Have you checked out the latest restaurant in Boerne that is kid friendly?  I mean, really kid friendly!!  Playgrounds, basketball area and little game machines are all there for your little ones to enjoy while you can grab a healthy meal (or a not so healthy meal).  They have a delicious salad bar with all the fixin’s you could want and their grilled chicken sandwich is one I would definitely order again.  This is a great place to meet your friends before or after a ball game or on a night that your kitchen might be closed.  Located on the south end of Main Street in Boerne.  Check it out!  Worth going…especially on a night when all kids are hungry and needing to play.

The San Antonio Rodeo is in full swing and makes for a great outing for the whole family.  Livestock, carnival, concerts, BBQ, bull riding and my favorite event…Muttin’ Bustin’!  Take the time to enjoy this time of year in San Antonio.  So much to do, neat things to see and an event your kids will enjoy seeing.  To learn more about everything the Rodeo has to offer go to http://www.sarodeo.com.  Definitely worth your money to learn more about how to be a true cowboy/cowgirl and get a glimpse of some Texas fun!

Field Trip at No Cost!

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

I have been so blessed to find a wonderful preschool for my kiddos that we all love.  I could go on and on about how great the teachers are, the activities and the lessons the kids are learning.  The one thing I love about the school is that they take the kids on field trips throughout the year.

My son just went on a field trip to our local grocery store.  It was both educational and fun.  He has mentioned it a few times now since he went last week.  He has been pointing out to me which foods are healthy and which ones are not!  Gotta love your 5 year old telling it like it is.

It made me realize I need to be better about educating my kids when we are out in public.  So many times I am so concerned about getting my errands run or making sure they are behaving that I don’t live in the moment and allow my kids imagination and brains run wild.  We frequent the grocery on a weekly basis.  How easy would it be to teach them a new food each week and where it comes from?  Or show them how the butchers work so hard to have the meats freshly prepared for us and talk to them about where the meats come from.  Teach them the difference between a healthy snack vs. a non-healthy snack.  Show them the importance of how much things cost and add up so quickly.

The grocery store is a great activity you could take your kids to do without making it your routine trip to the grocery.  Take them on a scavenger hunt where they have to find certain healthy food choices, allow them to find foods that start with each letter of the alphabet and write them down, take them to change their coins from their piggy bank  into cash and then let them pick out a snack, show them the floral area and teach them different types of flowers God has made.  There are endless teaching moments in the grocery that we all frequent too often!  Take advantage of spending special time with your kids and enjoy your local food market.

The Cove Restaurant

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

I am trying my best to get out more and see the city, especially before the arrival of our new baby.  We are soon going to become a family of 5 and have been discussing how much of the little things will be changing for our family.  So exciting and a bit nervous, but very THANKFUL for God’s continued blessings in my life.

We came across a dive this weekend that exceeded our expectations!  The Cove Restaurant, located at 606 W. Cypress Street in San Antonio has the slogan “Eat Well, Live Well.”  They serve SOL foods!  Sustainable, organic and local!!  This restaurant is also a beer garden, live music venue, laundromat and car wash!!!

The Cove was featured on the Food Network channel and Texas Monthly magazine.  Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and a kids playground, basketball hoop and ping pong table!  Another bonus…every Tuesday from 5pm-11pm kids eat free off the kids menu with the purchase of adult entree.  You can make this a whole family event and even bring your dog!

Take a Saturday and get out of your rut!  Try somewhere new and get inspired by eating healthy!  You won’t be disappointed with this place!  To learn more about The Cove check out their web page at http://thecove.us.

Back at it with GREAT intentions!

Happy New Year Savvy Mommas!!!!!  I have been neglecting this page more than I ever imagined I would.  Not because I wanted to or because I didn’t care.  I have been so busy this holiday season with 2 little ones holiday activities, a pregnancy that has me sick all the time and a fundraiser I am co-chairing that has become a full time job.  That being said…one of my priorities for 2011 is to be consistent about posting more regular activities, cool shops, yummy restaurants to try and places to entertain your family.

2011 is going to be a GREAT  year!  I can just feel it!!!  Please feel free to email me with any awesome information, places to try out and things to do to entertain your kiddos so I can let all other Savvy Mommas know too!  We are all a wealth of knowledge.  Just takes a few of us to type this stuff up and share with others.

Happy New Year!!  Let’s make 2011 Great!

Don’t Forget about the Fun, Free Fall Festival this weekend!

Morning Sickness…ALL DAY LONG!

Friday, June 18th, 2010

In case you were wondering why I haven’t posted much lately…I am pregnany with #3 and am feeling a bit under the weather.  Yup, it’s amazing how you forget how bad you feel once that baby comes into this world that you think you can do it again and again.  Needless to say, we are thrilled for another blessing!  I just need to get through 4 more weeks of ickyness.

What has been working for me?

Water with fresh lemon juice, a handful of almonds every 2 hours, Sea Bands (bracelets you wear that puts pressure on some part of your wrist that is suppose to help), apples, gingerale and SLEEP!!  If you know of any other good home remedy’s please share!  I am sure I am not the only preggo that feels like this.

What we do for our babies start the minute we find out we are pregnant!

Lost Pines Resort

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

My family just got back from a vacation and it was well worth blogging about!  If you haven’t had a chance to take your family here this would be a great weekend getaway with the kids.  Probably one of the most kid friendly places to stay we have ever been to.  The rooms were nothing extraordinary but the grounds were worth spending your time outside…even on a hot summer day.

Lost Pines is owned by Hyatt Regency and located in Bastrop, TX (right outside of Austin).  They have a beautiful golf course, horses to ride, a wonderful pool, water slize, lazy river and great activities almost every hour throughout the day.  From face painting to digging for worms and kickball games, Lost Pines is a place to take the whole family.  They have tons of bicycles and kid bikes you can use, walking paths, hiking trails, and great food from a few different restaurants on the main campus.

If you want to learn more about Lost Pines you can check out their web page HERE.
