Don’t throw away your Christmas cards!

January 8th, 2010

My friend from Houston informed me of a great idea to do with your Christmas cards you recieved over the holidays.  DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY!  There are a lot of wonderful ideas on how you could save these cards, pray for these families, and see how they change throughout the years to come.  This could also be a great craft to get your kids involved in too!

1.  Cut around the pictures and make Christmas ornaments for your tree.  You could glue the picture onto a piece of construction paper or poster board, laminate the ornament and punch a hold on top.  Thread a piece of string through the whole and you have home made ornaments that your kids could help hang because they won’t break.  This is a really cute idea if you have more than one tree at home too.  You could have 1 tree designated for family and friends and see how they change through the years and remember the memories with your loved ones.

2.  Create placemats with collages of the pictures.  Laminate the placemats and use them at the table during months when there is not a holiday to celebrate.  Those months could be your month to celebrate your friendships, family and memories with others.  Make it a point to pray at meal time for a specific family that is on one of the placemats.

3.  Hang a bulletin board in a room where you will see these pictures often.  One of my friends keeps her bulletin board up all year long and she always has friends come over saying how cute it is that her bulletin board is full of cards of her favorite people.

4.  Make a scrapbook with your cards and add new cards to it every year.  This will be something fun to pull out in later years to see little “Sally” growing up right before your eyes.

People took the time, money and thought into these cards.  Instead of throwing them away, be creative and think about ways you could see these pictures and cards and pray for your friends!  Happy crafting!

  1. Hi Jamie…we have the “friend” bulletin board in our laundry room with all our xmas cards up (we cut all the xmas stuff off and just leave the picks) and my boys LOVE pointing them all out, especially friends that we left in Kansas City..it makes me feel a little more at “home” too, when I see my friends whom I miss dearly everytime I go and do the laundry..which is almost daily around here!!!
